Update your Lampshades with ribbon!
I am a BIG fan of the pop of color, every room needs at least e few colorful accents. But many people are afraid to commit to buy a hot pink sofa, and frankly I don’t blame them. It can be a tough decision, ESPECIALLY if you plan to purchase a long term investment piece. It’s tough to commit to a color that you just might fall out of love with sometime in the future.
So how can you add color to a space without making a big commitment? There are really TONS of ways. Some of my favorites are with throw pillows and tabletop accents. These are easy peasy ways to add instant pizzazz. Paint is an obvious second, and although I know that painting is a low cost solution for blasé walls, i am NOT one of those designers that blindly promotes painting by saying, “oh it’s so easy”. I LOVE a good coat of paint, I have painted just about everything, but I also know that I have almost pulled my hair out on more than one occassion “cutting in” corners and trying to clean up spilled paint. So painting, athough it is a cheap solution, may not be the easiest.
One of the simplest ways to add instant color is by pimping your lampshades. It’s easy, can be done in an afternoon, and if you have a stash of craft materials that rivals an aisle at Michael’s this project is a synch!
Here is what you need:
– A drum shade, this is a shade that almost perfectly round. Having a round shade helps LOTS, a shade with any pitch or angle to it, makes it hard to smooth ribbon over
– Ribbon, I like Satin or Grosgrain. Grosgrain is great because of it’s matte look, it tends to hide imperfections in gluing
– Hot glue gun OR a great fabric glue, there are so many out there
Here is a video I did with the step by step instructions here!
