When I was a kid, Sunday mornings were sacred in my house. My mom took our sleep seriously.
A morning person trapped in a family of night owls, she tiptoed around our kitchen while we snoozed, hoping we’d rest up enough for our busy weeks ahead (and often ready for a kindly, but stern, lecture about how we all needed more rest).
I loved waking up later than usual to the aroma of brunch wafting up to my room. It smelled like pancakes and bacon, accompanied with the sound of sizzling eggs in a skillet and toast popping up in the toaster.
We’d yawn all the way to the table to gratefully gobble everything up, and usually ended up so full that napping seemed like a good idea afterward. I think this was her plan all along.
