A “Sweet” fundraising event

Ferrero Roche

I was lucky enough to be one of the guests at the Ferrero Rocher “Sweet” event this past week, which raised money for the Food Bank of New York and Share Our Srength. This event boasted hundreds of desserts created by top dessert chefs and chocolatiers. You should have seen the tables and tables of dark chocolate confections, beautifully decorated cakes, giant lollipops and so much more-it was awesome! Here’s a link to their website describing the event.

Above is a picture of me hanging with my pals including Michael Chiarello, Giada De Laurentiis, Cat Cora and Ingrid Hoffman. Oh and you can’t ignore the girls dressed up as dark chocolate truffles-how funny?

Congratulations on all that you have acheived in your life. And I love 3o minute meals, I can actually keep up with you! It would be cool if you could do a Vegetarian show.

Hi Rachael, I think this fund raising idea is fantastic. I love seeing all the fun ideas, and make them my own when I do a fund raiser for various mission trips I lead. When you were getting started in this passion of yours, did you ever think it would lead to all this? Is it what you expected? You seem like such a genuine person & think that maybe if we had grown up closer together, you and I may have been good friends. (Especially because our dad’s love to cook Louisiana Cajun food!….yay for Crawfish Etoufe!) Bless ya!

  22. Kristine Gravelle-Rystenbil says:

    In reply to Francesca’s question:
To soften rock-hard brown sugar or keep fresh brown sugar soft, you can use any one of the following – a slice of plain white bread in with the brown sugar; some suggest using an apple in the brown sugar bag; my favorite is the brown sugar disk. The disk comes in the shape of disk and looks like red clay. You place the disk in water for 15 minutes and it becomes saturated with water. Once the disk is soaked, place it in the brown sugar jar or bag; within 1-2 days the sugar will be as soft as the day you bought it.

  27. Madison says:

    Hey Rach,

This is my first time on your website and I have to say it is quite amazing! You have so much on here ; blogs, articles, pictures, but most important is of coarse your recipes ! Thank you. I watch your show whenever possible; between classes and the re-runs ! I’m only 19 but my boyfriend and I cook for ourselves and eachother all the time! The only thing is that I would like to enter for a chance to win one of your recipe cook books but I don’t qualify. My thoughts are for you to broaden the industry you’ve created. Your show is great !

  28. Madison says:

I meant to say ..” AND my boyfriend and I cook..”

Having your book at hand would be so great !

  29. Crystal Kirk says:

    Hey Rachael!
I love to watch your show whenever I get the chance. Also, I love Giada’s show too!!! The whole food network gang is awsome! I have something kind of bizaar that I wanted you to tell Giada for me. (If you could) I have always wanted to meet the both of you someday and I did. I met you guys in my dream! Wierd huh? So anyway… I was at a party (don’t no what for) and I went with my b.f.f. and family members were there etc. etc. As we sat down to eat I glanced back and at my mothers table were you and Giada sitting next to each other. The next thing ya know I was leaping over the booth and right in between you guys. I can only remember talking mostly to Giada and she gave me her number and autograph. Then she said that I can visit her. I also saw you and was very excited. That was how I met the both of you. I can only imagine what it would be like to actually see you guys in person, for I admire you. Although I love to bake more, I still see some jazziness from you and I love Giada’s show because she has a great care for her family and she seems like the sweetest person. Please if you read this tell Giada about how I met you guys. If not it is okay. I was so happy when I had that dream that I woke up smiling. Have a good holiday if I don’t write back! Happy Holidays to all of the food network hosts and chefs.

    Hey Rach,
I am a mother of two children, both of whom are afflicted with a genetic disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy type 1. My oldest is my beautiful daughter Abigail who will be three in February, my handsome son Gabriel is 1 1/2. We love to watch your shows and would like to know if you have any good ideas for fundraising to put towards the goal of finding a cure for their disease. Thank you so much for your time, I know you are busy. If you would like to know more about their disease you can go to http://www.fsma.com

Rach, You are an awesome sweet home town girl. Have watched your show everyday. Still have the issue of Guidepost you were in before your TV show. Love your dog. Two Questions. Any simple meat and potatoes receipes? I am handicapped but love to cook for my husband. Second, I heard on your show about a giveaway for a camera? I can’t find where to go to enter. Keep up the good work. YOU ARE A JOY, Carol B.

  36. Rachael,
I have a 6 year old daughter that is so in love with you. They call her little Miss Rachael Ray. I would love to get information from you so that she could help with your fundraiser. When folks ask her what she wants to be when she grows up she says RACHAEL RAY cause she is the best cooker in the world.

  38. Kevin Morton says:

    Rachel,

I believe one of the biggest reasons you stand above so many other great chefs is the fact you have such a great heart! If you or any of your other buddies are in the Charlotte, NC area around March 16th there will be a Chili-Cook Off to raise money in order to help with Austin Simpson’s medical fund. Austin is a third grader who has been diagnosed with Duchenne Disease, which is a type of Muscular Dystrophy that attacks at a very young age. Austin’s parents are in the process of making their home wheelchair accessible. Austin is also undergoing treatment at Duke and the Shriner’s Hospital. The event will be held at C&J Family Restaurant located in Roebuck, SC from 2 til 6 pm. An appearance by such a wonderful celebrity could turn this into a spectacular event for little Austin.

    God bless you Rachel.

I am trying to raise awareness of a an online business I started this past September. it is called The Giving Store at http://www.shopthegivingstore.com. Here you can shop for items for yourself and loved ones that are all-natural, Eco-friendly, and/or handcrafted. 10% of the retail price will be donated to 1 of 13 non-profits you can choose.

I am working mother of two (19 months and 8 1/2 years) with a large Italian family and tons of friends. In this wonderful group of people I have a grandmother we lost from cancer, my husband’s grandmother was a breast cancer survivor along with many friends, three of our four grandfathers were lost to strokes and heart attacks, the one living grandfather and grandmother have had by-pass surgeries, my father and a friend have diabetes, a friend’s son as asperger a form of autism, we have many loved ones who have survived domestic violence and abuse, we care about literacy in the world, animal protection, and trying to keep this planet around. I know my family and friends aren’t alone in any of this.

So I decided to start The Giving Store so we could all make a difference through purchases that are green and give the greatest gift of all a donation. Please help me spread this message.

    Sincerely – Nicole Gross, Founder
