Getting into schools & teaching kids about food is so important. Unfortunately, this topic is rarely covered in standard curriculum. I volunteered with a program in the NY area called Cookshop last year. We visited a kindergarten class weekly to explore and cook with a fruit or vegetable. It was amazing to see that the kids would truly try anything after they'd been a part of making it! I'm now working on a class to teach kids about taste & flavor. I think developing a vocabulary and awareness about eating food is another key area of food education that isn't typically offered. You can read more about it at: http://swingsetkitchens.wordpress.com/2008/03/06/teaching-kids-to-cook-and-taste/

I look forward to reading more about your adventures!

I was thought of Rachel Ray as the Jamie Oliver of the USA. I hope she will use her influence to change the country's cafeteria food. We need her support !
