Ahem…about my throat procedure

Thanks to everyone for all their kind words. I’m fine!!!! And happy to have an excuse to be quiet for a few days. My doctors feel I’ll be okay to chat it up again by week’s end. I feel guilty for all the lovely flowers and notes I have been getting – I was back in the kitchen cooking three hours after the procedure. Thanks again!

A word from Rachael’s doctor:

“On July 7th, Rachael Ray had a ambulatory procedure to remove a small benign cyst from her vocal cord,” said Dr. Gwen S. Korovin who performed the procedure. “The non-invasive procedure took less than an hour and required absolutely no stitches. The recovery process requires a short period of complete vocal rest. The successful procedure will now prevent Rachael from experiencing the vocal issues she has had in the past.”

I am glad that you were able to get your throat fixed. I have a quick question about one of your recipes. I want to make the Bacon wrapped blue Cheese Stuffed Chicken, Green Beans and Smashed Potatoes with Green Onions. Can I make it with rice instead of lettuce and use Parm cheese instead of blue cheese.

Hi Rach! I was wondering if you are going to be having a pots and pan give away again? I love your stuff but lost my job and if I can win a give away that would be so so sweet! Although I am not that lucky! Thanks

I had a lesion on my vocal cord and wasn’t as lucky as you. It turned out to be cancer so I had to go through the whole 9 yards – surgery, chemo and radiation. I hope your procedure scared you into thinking about quitting smoking…it’s worth it!

He has a short little video that he has made for you, but I don’t know how to upload it. Hope I can figure it out…it is about your catchy theme song. He sings it ALL THE TIME.

    Dear Rachael,
I am sorry about your throat but i am glad you will be fine. My name is Josh and I am 14 years old. I am a HUGE fan. My parents say that they grew up with Julia and I say i grew up with you. Cooking is my passion and people say i am very advanced for my age. My dream is to be a Food Network star like you when i grow up. My mom started selling my food at her work and in one week we made $150 by selling belgian pecan waffles and my homeade spicy crackers. (2.50 each) I already know how to correctly chop almost any vegitable and just recently purchased my own 8 inch chefs blade. I love being in front of the camera and have already made a cooking show that i would like to send to you if i can figure out how. I know you are very busy but if you have time do you think you can give me some tips? Thank you SO much.

    Your Biggest Fan,

Racheal, Is it believed that the cyst is what caused your raspy (sexy) voice? I too have the same voice and have had it for all my life??? I can can someone that I have only spoken to once and they know who I am because of my voice. I have had doctors who have asked me if I have been checked for throat cancer, when I explain to them that I have always sounded this way they are like oh alright!!! Our voice is very distinctive and I do not mind sounding a little raspy and sexy. The only time I have issues is when I am trying to disipline my children and I just can not get that mean stern voice!!!

Rachael u r an enchanting raven-haired pixie with a heart of gold. You’ve seemed sad for a while now on your shows and I miss the light and happy-go-lucky humor. I got on this site just to write u this: Don’t let people get u down. Ur hardworking, not lazy. So what if u guesstimate measurements? The food still comes out delicious. Ur pretty, you eat what u want like me. Life’s too short to wear “slimming black” all the time. Finally, ur a good person and anyone would be lucky to have u. Keep smiling Rach!

I’ve used a Stainless Steel one for years but heard that I’ve been doing it wrong. Please answer me. Love you Rachael.

I didn’t know how to contact you in the best way, so I thought I made a comment here.
I’m a teacher for the lower grades in Sweden, and this morning (I have got a cold, so I’m home recovering) I happen to see one program from your show. It was when parents meets teachers and you help them to see things from both sides.
And I loved the idea. I have worked at both daycare and in school. (I’m not a parent yet but anyway). And I recognized a lot from my reality in that program.
Thank you for a great show.
    Have a sunny day.
    Greetings from south of Sweden.

    Dear Rach;

It’s probably none of my business, but I hope you wearing a red circlet instead of your wedding rings does not mean there is trouble at home. I’m a devoted fan and wish that all is well with you. Also hope your recovery from surgery is speedy and successful.

Hi Rachel, I watch your show everyday. You did a real quick recipe and I could not get it on line. It was sliced eggplant, I think dredged in flour, egg, and crushed walnuts and some other nuts. You cook them and make a sandwich with tomatoes, and cheese. How do you cook them? I would really the the recipe.

    Thank you,

  42. Fay says:

You look soooo great!!!! I love your longer hair and your slimmer figure. You were aging before my eyes!!! Whomever your fashion figure had it all wrong back then. I kept saying to myself as I watched you–who was your wardrobe coordinator???? She/he should have been fired!!! I at 65 and a breast cancer surivor, had a better wardrobe than you–thanks to my two beautiful daughters, 35 and 32 years of age!!! You do not have to look old, no matter what your age!!!

I have always loved your enthusiastic personality and positive attitude!!! I watch your show most every day!!!!! Keep up the good wor!!!~ One question though, why do you wear a slim wedding band rather than your original diamond/band ensemble? I am wondering. Is it because of your cooking? Let the viewers know, because if I am wondering, so do others.

Thanks–keep up the good work!!! Fay Kline from Fort Wayne, Indiana

  46. Nisha says:

    Hi Rachael,

I came across you blog,i watch your cooking show ,you know what i am pregnant this my 27th week,i have lost my voice,it takes lot of effort for me to speak,i went to ENT they told me that i had this Papilloma, then they got biopsy and then nothing came out.So i am wondering is it because of my pregnancy, god knows i never had this problem. What do you suggest wait untill my pregnancy and then if there is problem i can see a doctor. Also i do not earn that much, never expected at this point of life.I am worried how will i talk to my new born.

  47. Rachel,

I had a thryoglossal cyst which was growing and making a lump on the side of my neck (a little like yours). They removed it at Flower Fifth Avenue Hospital years ago when Dr.Kempner was alive. You would have loved his work and him. He made the incision in the crease of my neck so you could not see it. I could not talk for a while (it was terrible) and am fine now. Unfortunately, they can and sometimes grow back. In my case, I think I have a few nodules in my throat (neck) and I am not doing anything about them now. If they aren’t bothering me then I am going to leave them alone. I am 66 and you are young, so be diligent about removing each one that comes up. It will prolong your life and your voice. I WOULD TAKE VOICE LESSONS EVERY WEEK IF I WERE YOU BECAUSE IT WILL HELP YOUR THROAT TREMENDOUSLY.

Keeping you quiet must be a difficult task and John has his work cut out for himself. Please tell him I said it is his turn to care for you now – hand and foot. I am a New Yorker (used to be) and love your accent. Rest your vocal chords.

You are one of a kind.

  48. Marla D. says:

    Hi Rach,
I’m glad that your throat procedure went well and that your problem is very treatable.
I think that I remember that you did a show about people with voice problems. I would love to see you draw attention to a problem which I happen to have.
I have a condition called Spasmodic Dysphonia. My vocal chords spasm uncontrollably, which makes my voice sound like that of a very elderly woman. Diane Remes, who speaks on NPR, also has this. I have been having Botox injections directly into my vocal chords, which has kept me talking and kept me in the classroom while I was teaching.
Check out the website of The National Spasmodic Dysphonia Association. You would be a wonderful person to support this association and to draw attention to our rare disorder.

  49. Suzet Dizon says:

…. love u Rach!,Im so glad, you will be fine now, but be careful ok?. You are looking good by the way, I like your hair longer, cute he he,. So, keep it up, goodluck, love your show!, the Best!, God bless!..take care.

Just wanted to say THANK YOU for caring about all the helpless animals in the world. alot of people who make it big forget the little things in life.
I heard about how you donated a large amount of money to a speical lady to help with a animal rescue.
it’s something close to my heart with 11 pets and a dream of some day opening my own rescue. It hasn’t happened yet,but I feel I want to when I retire and can give the animals alot more of my time.

Well Just wanted to say thanks from all the animals .
take care and keep up the great work. love your passion for food and animals.
