When getting advice on your blonde locks in the cold winter months it needs to be from someone who is one, a blonde themselves and two, who is a celebrity colorist renowned for their exceptional work on blondes and we just so happen to have one at our Cutler 57th street location! Dallace Walsh (212)-308-3838 gives us three options on how to keep you blonde and in style through the big chill!
1. One of the most popular beliefs is that all blondes should go darker. This can be a great look (think Jennifer Aniston) and segway to getting you off the blonde Ferris wheel so that you can start to explore colors that are less challenging to maintain. Ease into this with a few face framing brighter high lights and adjust the base color to a tone that is honey or strawberry blonde.
2. One advantage in winter is that you don’t have to maintain your roots quite as often. My suggestion, is if you choose to keep your roots dark try to keep them from looking to trashy by intentionally placing the highlights on the underneath sections of the top part of your hair. It will keep it from looking like your wearing a Yakima and leave a little extra money in your pocket!
3. Now, I am a lifetime blonde, and I can think of nothing worse on a cold and dreary winter day than to have dark blonde hair! I say what a perfect time when everyone else is going darker to let it shine, be the light bulb in a dark room. Go for big bold highlights and introduce shades of blonde that in the summer months would be difficult to maintain because of sun bleaching, pool chlorine and the ocean. Play with champagne and wheat tones and if you are feeling extra worthy of the spot light go for lavender and pink accents that will make your highlights pop!
Delaying your highlights more than two months or your single process more than six weeks can make your entire head appear darker therefore loosing the brightness around your face. The point is to shine ladies; light bulbs don’t put out a lot of light with a black lampshade. Also, as our skin fades and grays out we may need a little extra help to make us shine by delving into the make up bag, maybe a little bronzer with some shimmer and lipsticks with reddish pink tones for a healthy glow.
Be blonde and beautiful!
