Sometimes when I am feeling frustrated with work I look over at my pets and think “When are you guys going to get jobs?”, sometimes I even say it out loud! They stare back at me blankly, honestly, they have no idea how much they cost me. Henwin with her prescription cat food to help with her urinary crystals (at $60 a bag this stuff is like kitty gold)! And the electric bill from Baloo with her heating pad on on frigid winter days (she is half hairless after all).
Baloo and Her Catastic pal Henwin
But last week, I had no idea that Baloo took my question to heart and went out and got a job. Well, sort of.
My good friend Julia Szabo is a bit of know it all when it comes to pets. She is the pet columnist for the New York Post (not too shabby, right?) and has written several books out our four legged friends including Animal House Style, which is one of my all time favorites.
As pet reporter for the New York Post, Julia regularly reviews books, movies and products designed for our four legged friends. And this time she asked Baloo to check out her latest video to review. PETelenovela.
If you are familiar with the drama and the scandal of the Telenovelas that are programming staples on networks like Univision and Telemundo, then you have an idea of what I am talking about. PETelenovela, is a soap opera FOR dogs, STARRING dogs.
Hilarious.
So I popped the DVD in and turned it on. Much to my surprise Baloo was entranced. She usually doesn’t pay much attention to the TV, occasionally if there is a dog barking in a movie, Baloo will give a sideways glance, but never prop herself in front of the tv and never, ever, sit with her nose so close to the screen that she leaves nose prints. Seriously.

Baloo Noseprints
So the formerly unemployed Baloo is now gainfully employed as a Pet movie reviewer and she heartily gave PETelenovela Two Paws Up! And at 10.99 a DVD, with percentage of the proceeds going to animal rescue, I give it two paws (well, thumbs) up too!
Here is the review featuring Baloo’s review and here is a little synopsis of the first installment of PETelenovela:
The first episode follows Lonnie Miller, the adventurous but naive protagonist as he leaves his small-town Texas home for the Big Apple. Oh, the adventures he has! His cousin, Chuck-Now-Che, shows him the activist in himself, while Fontina Fontaine introduces him to the dark, but scratchable underbelly of her doggy empire.
Dogs will love watching PETelenovela! Owners can feel good about the message and the knowledge that a donation from every purchase of this product benefits shelter dogs across America. Who knows, your dog may even invite you to watch along!

Now even more expense, I should leave the TV/DVD on for my pets….well maybe it would keep them occupied instead of eating my angora sweater. or earring, or shoes, or chocolate.

I live in Florida and really don’t know who I should contact for this matter. I was watching the local news and they showed St. Augustine ,Fl has banned Pit Bulls!
How can you ban a breed when it’s the owners that are to blame. I have a red nose pit and his little buddy is a yorkiepoo.Hopefully with the contacts you are able to attract this will not go unnoticed. Thank you for myself,Boo (pit) and Max (yorkiepoo)!
