I was reading all the comment and enjoyed them..I could relate to Gail and the German Springerliers..
It reminded me that i inherited a rolling pin(but not the recipe)it had pictures on it and I was told it was to make german anise cookie...I love anise and was wondering if Gail had that recipe or you did Rachael.? If so please send it to my e mail..thanks Also, my grandmother years ago sent my cousin pizzeles when he was in the military and the cook loved them so much he tried to make them on his waffle iron..When my grandmother heard of this, she bought an pizzale iron and sent it to the cook she did not even know.tHAT IS THE KIND OF FAMILY I WAS BORN AND RAISE IN..GOD BLESS THEM ALL!

Thanks for all the variations - really chuckled when the suggestion was made about using manicotti shells. Had a dear, dear Italian friend who passed away and she would have thought you a genious. Will try it and let you know. Gracias from me (and Josie)

Sounds like your son would like springerlies. They are a German cookie and is made with Anise oil. I used to work in a section of town called Schnizelberg or Germantown and at the holidays, we would have a lot of ladies come in the grocery that I worked at for Anise oil. We had to make sure we had plenty in stock.

I love making pizzelles so much that I've burned up three irons in the past 20 years. One note about summer is that if you live in a humid environment, pizzelles will get "soggy" very quickly. It is important that after they cool completely, you promptly put them in an air-tight container, and I mean air-tight. Minimize going into the container as much as possible, so keep them out of reach of children and husbands!
