A Meatball as Good as Homemade!

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending a tasting for Mama Mancini’s Famous Meatballs.  Meatballs are something I rarely tackle in my own kitchen.  They are time consuming and tricky to pull off perfectly.  And that is exactly why Mama Mancini’s meatballs are such a revelation.  These meatballs are exactly what you would make, if you had the time and a fantastic Italian grandma to teach you all the little tips that you most certainly need to make a great meatball.

Daniel Mancini, the creator of Mama Mancini’s Famous Meatballs In Sunday Sauce, began his business with the idea that sharing meals with family and friends is one of life’s great joys.  He told me that he would be cooking the recipes he’d learned from his Grandmother, Ana Mancini, and that his friends and family would gather around to share, not just the food he was making but also in the camaraderie that comes from sharing in such an experience together.

His idea was bring a product to the market that could bring people to the table in the same way.  That is exactly what he created.  The meatballs taste entirely homemade.  There is not a whisper of anything artificial in the flavor, and with good reason, the ingredients are as straightforward as can be; Ground beef, breadcrumbs, Romano cheese, whole eggs, onion, parsley salt and pepper.    The Sunday Sauce follows along the same lines using only, Italian plum tomatoes, onion, olive oil, garlic, bay leaves, salt and pepper; the sauce has a delightful and fresh tomato flavor.

It is exciting to know that in this day and age, where fillers are so often substituted for good, simple ingredients that are cooked slowly and with attention to detail, that when you pick up Mama Mancini’s Famous Meatballs in Sunday Sauce you will feel as good about feeding them to your family as if you’d spent the hours in the kitchen cooking them yourself!

What a coincidence, I just bought these meatballs the other day and was so floored by their great taste that I am writing a letter to the company to tell them how great their meatballs are! I just hope I can still get them now that the word is out!

I am not surprised by this blog report at all. I actually purchase this product from the Whole Foods at Union Square in Manhattan and they are everything you say they are and more. I have had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Mancini when he was giving out free samples. I usually pass by the people offering tastings but he was very dynamic, so i gave it a try. Keep up the good work Mr. Mancini and I hope I have the pleasure of seeing you again.

This recipe makes very tasty meatballs with any gound meat. It is very similar to the one I found several years age. My recipe calls for garlic. I am thinking about using this recipe as the base to recreate the “pizza burger” They were available in diners in my area during the 60’s. These days it is hard to find any diner making this burger and the ones I do find do not cut the mustard. A slice of mozzerella and some Marinara on an Italian bread type roll. It could be a smell-a-vision time machine!

If you like the beautiful views and beautiful water you should go to Destin and Fort Walton Beach, Florida on gulf coast. While you are there you should check out Couch-n-Four steakhouse and seafood restaurant; whether you are in the mood for Steak, seafood or just to hang out with friends, Coach-n-Four (http://www.coachnfourfwb.com) is one of the best Fort Walton Beach restaurants.

The meatball is not as important as what it is drenched in. The same meatball in a half a dozen sauces can make then a half a dozen different meatballs. Any of the on a crusty bagette with lots of cheeze is the perfect lunch.

The ingredients list was pretty darn impressive. I’ve found that sometimes tomato sauces can be a little acidic, but Italian plum tomatoes pretty much guarantee a mellow flavor.
