Brian Boitano Makes a Mean Picnic!

It’s not everyday that I get to meet a figure skating legend, let alone make a sandwich with one of them.

A few weeks back on a blissfully beautiful summer day, I stumbled across Brian Boitano who helped me pull together a rockin’ romantic picnic in minutes for me and Stephen.

Check out the video here:

I couldn’t believe I was able to hang with a skating master, and I also couldn’t believe how incredibly delicious his food was. Apparently he can hold his own in the kitchen as well as he does on the ice. But can he do both at the same time?? Hmm, maybe that’s a challenge for another time.

Brian’s Fancy Prosciutto & Green Apple Sandwich

Ingredients:

- 2 sesame rolls, or whatever bread you would prefer
- 1 green apple, thinly sliced
- 1 block of Tallegio
- Olive Tapenade
- Prosciutto, or in our case, Chili Smoke Pork Butt

Directions:

Spread the olive tapenade on both sides of the bread. Add the slices of green apple and sliced Tallegio cheese. Lay on a few slices of Prosciutto and your sandwich is set!

The Tano “It Doesn’t Get Much Better Than This” Fruit Salad

Ingredients:

- 1 small Watermelon cubed
- 1 Honeydew melon cubed
- 1 cantelope cubed
- Fresh lemon verbena or mint.
- Lemon
- Orange
- Grand Marnier

Directions:

Put the cubed melons in a large bowl and add in thinly chopped lemon verbena. Squeeze the juice of one lemon and one orange over the fruit. Add a splash of Grand Marnier and mix it thoroughly.

Brian’s “Famous Sparkling Lemonade with a Little Bit More Than Just Sparkle”

Ingredients:

- 1 large container of fresh squeezed lemonade. (Homemade is better, but store bought is just fine).
- Vodka
- Framboise or chambord
- Sparkling Water

Combine the lemonade with the sparkling water until the desired amount of fizz is obtained. Add one shot of Vodka and one shot of Framboise or Chambord. Garnish with a lemon or a sprig of mint.

And for a skate down memory lane, check out Brian’s UH-MAZING performance at the 1988 Olympics, where he took home the gold:

Fun Facts about Brian:

- He was the first American skater to land a triple axel jump
- He created his own jump, the Tano triple lutz
- He loves hats, that morning before we started shooting he already scored 3!

Brian Boitano rocks!! He was so inspiring in the 1988 Olympics and he has continued to improve and grow over the years. A heck of a nice guy, too. I met him once years ago – such a mensch!! Great piece, Evette.
