Shoe4Africa…Sea to Stars Journey!

There are various ways to see the beauty of Africa, we just happen to be choosing the more difficult route. As my uniquely eccentric humanitarian friend Toby Tanser wouldn’t have it any other way! He came up with a journey, Sea to Stars having us run 250-miles, starting in Mombassa across Kenya into Tanzania to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Yes, I know my mother doesn’t think it’s a good idea either. But, there are times in your life when you need to throw logic out the window and test your limits. Especially, when it’s for a great cause, building a children’s hospital in Africa!

This has been Toby’s long time dream! Ten years ago, he was going to run up Kilimanjaro, to celebrate the Millennium.  Instead, due to the wish of others, he ended up by the Indian Ocean in Zanzibar (100-miles South of Mombassa).  On the beach, he was attacked for his running shoes by two men wielding a machete and a baseball bat. Being treated for his smashed skull, the clinic did not have antibiotics or anesthetics; if Toby had stayed in Africa he would have died given the offered health care.  Amazingly Toby’s response after his attack was to help the people of Africa by creating shoe4africa, where he provided shoes to the needy. This has been the driving force behind all of the wonderful things Toby has done with the charity, (www.shoe4africa.org).

Toby’s next endeavor is to create the first ever Sub-Saharan Children’s Hospital, which is where our 250-mile journey begins! With the support, donations we have received and continued efforts we look forward to breaking ground on the hospital after our Sea to Stars mission is complete!

I’m blown away by the support we have received from our team and friends to help make this a reality. So, keep an eye on what we’re doing. If you would like to get involved, we would love to hear from you and if you would like to contribute please go to; http://www.shoe4africa.org.
