The haircut that has survived the test of time… The BOB

From Cleopatra to Josephine Baker and Louise Brooks, Linda Evangelista to Posh Spice’s modern rendition, it’s no coincidence that the bob is still desired in the fashion world.

One reason the bob thrives is that done correctly it creates a beautiful strong silhouette. Done poorly as we see on the streets everyday it appears boring and unsophisticated. The idea is to strengthen the jaw line. For an oval shaped face any length is appropriate from the check bone to the below the jawline. For a round face shape with heaviness around the chin take your bob 1’’ to 2’’ lower than the jaw line.

Other considerations, the bob shape is fantastic for emphasizing the cheek bone and illuminate the eyes. This can be achieved with or without bangs. The angle of the shape is extremely important. Generally the ideal angel of the bob is either an A-line shape, this is when the back of the hairline is the shortest

and the hair gradually gets longer towards the front sections (like the letter A) or an evenly cut bob with a consistent hair line from back to front. A slight bevel at the nape is important as it will add height at the crown creating a touch of sophistication to the shape.

So if you are at a loss for what to do next with your hair cut there’s always the bob.
