Hall and Oates has my vote!

Did you know Hall and Oates, one of the biggest pop rock duos in history has not yet been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame???   That’s why we want you to leave me a comment here and this will act as our petition to get these guys into the Hall of Fame.  We’ll gather all of your kind words, and send this off to show just how much we support these guys. So tell us why you love Hall and Oates and why you think they should join the likes of other excellent rockers.  You can leave comments or even just your name if you don’t have much time.  It all counts! p.s. tune in for their performance on [...]...

Ahem…about my throat procedure

Thanks to everyone for all their kind words. I’m fine!!!! And happy to have an excuse to be quiet for a few days. My doctors feel I’ll be okay to chat it up again by week’s end. I feel guilty for all the lovely flowers and notes I have been getting - I was back in the kitchen cooking three hours after the procedure. Thanks again! -Rach A word from Rachael’s doctor: “On July 7th, Rachael Ray had a ambulatory procedure to remove a small benign cyst from her vocal cord,” said Dr. Gwen S. Korovin who performed the procedure. “The non-invasive procedure took less than an hour and required absolutely no stitches. The recovery process requires [...]...

North Shore Animal League

Yesterday was an exciting and emotional day for me.  I was given the Lewyt Humanitarian Award by the North Shore Animal League for my animal advocacy work and for the donations we have been able to make from the proceeds I have generated from the sales of my dog food, Rachael Ray Nutrish.  I’m pleased to say that we have generated hundreds of thousands of dollars (a growing number) in proceeds that I will continue to give to rescue and rehab organizations and people, such as NSAL.  The sad part of the lunch was listening to the statistics around puppy mills and seeing the videos of how these poor dogs are treated.  Recently  the NSAL was able to bust up [...]...

A charitable week

Just a quick post and shout out to a few organizations I adore- I normally like to go home after a long day of taping and throw on my jammies, but last week I had the pleasure of going to two events that I look forward to all year. Both The Food Bank and City Harvest held fundraisers, which I was proud to attend as both of these organizations are partners of mine through Yum-o! One of our key missions at Yum-o! is to help fight hunger in American families, which both of these groups do exceedingly well through their brilliant programs. The Food Bank Can Do Awards, hosted this year by Stanley Tucci and chaired by Michael Stipe (from REM), [...]...

A word about 30 minute meals and how long it takes to cook my recipes

Occasionally we get notes from people telling us that they love a recipe, but that it took them over 30 minutes to prepare.  I wanted to post a note about this in case there’s anyone else out there thinking the same thing. First of all, if you are a newbie in the kitchen, any recipe will take you longer than it should because you are just getting familiar with your bearings.  If you are holding a knife for the first time or still figuring out where you hid the paprika, cut yourself some slack.  Once you get more comfortable with your cooking routine and preparation skills, things will move a whole lot smoother and faster.  A few shortcuts that will help [...]...

Miley and Me

I never thought I could relate to a 16-year old so well, but then I met Miley Cyrus.  I just had to blog about how cool this girl is.  She’s only 16 years old but she’s so smart, funny, self-effacing, full of integrity and confidence, yet still a kid.  I feel like it took me 40 years to learn what she already knows!  I have so much in common with Miley and her father, the great Billy Ray, a true romantic!  Here are some of my favorite Miley and me similarities: We both love horses, in fact you know I’m a crazy animal lover. We both hate it when people try to take our food away before we’re done eating…like when you [...]...

Austin was a hoot!

We had another fantastic party at the South by Southwest Music Festival this year . I am not sure how next year can get any better, but we will be coming back and we will have another year of great music, food and hopefully Rose’s Mojitos. This year blew me away. I loved the bands we had last year, including Auto Vaughn, Scissors for Lefty and the Knux, but this year was a whole new lineup (except of course John’s band, The Cringe-you can expect them every year!). We had two levels to our party which meant two stages of official lineups. As if that wasn’t enough, there was a little side stage in another [...]...

South Beach fun in the sun

This year was my favorite year in South Beach at the Food Network Wine and Food Festival. First of all, it was cooler than it usually is, which put me in a great mood. I hate it when it’s too hot, especially when I am cooking. Secondly, I hear the festival made $1.5M over what they expected to earn, and that all goes to the Florida International University and their various hospitality and restaurant programs. I am not surprised because the crowd was huge-over 3,000 people showed for the Kidz Kitchen cooking demonstration I did on Saturday. If you couldn’t get into the Kidz Kitchen, you can get the recipes we handed out by printing off this [...]...

My new bling

Hey kids, hope everybody had a happy Valentine’s Day-I know I did and I’ll tell you why. I got a new ring and it is a beaut! So here’s the story- I usually take off my wedding rings when I am cooking with messy ingredients like ground meat. I get my hands all sticky and gunky from forming meatballs or burgers, which if you follow my cooking shows, is much of the time! You can say my rings have definitely taken a beating! Now, if I actually remember to take them off before I dive in to a bowl of food, I tend to leave them places, like on my set. My husband, meanwhile, [...]...

Good news about my throat!

Hey kids, Thank you for all of your sweet notes and posts.  I have been touched with all of your well-wishes for my throat surgery, which was scheduled for this week.  For the past few weeks, my doctor has had me on an intensive new vocal therapy. Very serious stuff!  Well, all my hard work is paying off as they now think that the surgery can wait and may not even need to happen at all!  So although you won’t see me out there caroling in my snow boots, Christmas will not be a silent night for me! Thanks for all of your support-it has really meant alot to me to read your kind thoughts-and I hope you all have a [...]...
