Pub-Perfect Sandwiches

In reading some recent local blog entries, I came across some pretty rave reviews about the food at Manchester Pub, located on the East Side in Midtown. Since that is near where I live, as well as close to my work, I had to give it a try. I walked in, only to notice yet another dark, pub-looking bar. Well, that’s what it was. You could tell that Manchester Pub has its set of locals as most pubs do, but I wasn’t there to make friends, I was there to eat.

I started with the Chicken Wings (well done, of course) – half Buffalo-style and half chipotle. They turned out to be pretty tasty chicken wings, especially the Buffalo-style ones. I love a good chipotle sauce, but sometimes the smokiness of the chipotle overdoes it for me. I only sampled a few. From there, I moved on to the sandwiches I had read so much about. I ordered two, served on twin brioche rolls. Not content with just one, I went with a combination so that I could try two different selections.

First up was the Pork Tenderloin Sandwich. Nestled in its toasted and generously buttered bun, it was a thin slice of pork tenderloin topped with a few pieces of sautéed apples along with some fried onion strings. Next up was the Short Rib Sandwich, filled with tender pieces of chopped meat topped with fried onion strings and a few pieces of fried mushrooms. Both sandwiches were flavorful and not too filling. The butter definitely added a richness, but they were not mammoth-size sandwiches where the meat falls out, which just aren’t my thing. Rather, I enjoyed the subtle flavors these pint-size sandwiches offered – just the thing for a pub!
