Featured Chef: Kenny Oringer

Internationally renowned and award-winning chef Ken Oringer has worked in some of the finest kitchens in the United States.  In addition, he has worked alongside some of the most  accomplished chefs in the world.  His career is a study in the rapid ascension of a gifted culinary artist.

Chef Oringer was awarded a degree from Bryant College of Rhode Island.  He then graduated from the Culinary Institute of America, where he was voted “Most Likely to Succeed.”  Following his graduation, Chef Oringer had the opportunity to work under Chef David Burke at New York River Cafe.  Shortly thereafter, he was named Pastry Chef at Al Forno in Providence, Rhode Island, where he quickly established a reputation for the exquisite.

Chef Oringer’s next stop was Boston, where he was first Chef de Partie, then Sous-Chef, at Le Marquis de Lafayette under Chef Jean Georges Vongerichten.  The next accomplishment for Chef Oringer was the opening of Terra, a trattoria that earned a three-star accolade from the New York Times. 

Driven to enhance his culinary skills as well as his proficiency with American wines, Chef Oringer becagn looking to the West.  He became Chef de Cuisine at Silks, in San Francisco’s Mandarin Orange Hotel.  San Franciscans were soon taken with his style, flair, and finesse with food.  Gourmet Magazine raved about his “sure and steady ahnd.”  Conde Nast Traveller determined that Silks, under Chef Oringer’s stewardship, was among the 20 best restaurants in America.
