What is hearts of palm and is it related to an artichoke?

Hearts of palm is actually the edible inner portion of a palm tree, yes the same one you see growing in Florida!  They are usually found in most grocery stores in the canned food aisle, in a water.  If you open the can and only use one or two, save the rest in a plastic container in the liquid.  You can chop up hearts of palm and use them in salads.  They have a salty savory flavor that is strong and delicious!  There is no relation to artichokes, however.
