How much do you tip your hairdresser?
I was getting my haircut the other day and I was thinking to myself, how much am I supposed to tip her? I follow the same rule I use for waitstaff and I usually give my hairdresser 20%. But then I wondered, does she even know I tip her that amount? I leave her tip at the front desk in a little envelope they give me for her. I am supposed to write her name on it, stick the money in and drop it in a box. But am I supposed to also write that it is from me so she knows how much I left for her? It reminds me of my childhood when my parents always wanted to know how much money my aunts gave me for my birthday so they could give the same amount to their kids for their b-days. I also remember my mom walking over to the hairdresser after a cut and handing her the tip, so there was no mistaking what she gave. I feel funny about the whole thing so I just stick the tip in an envelope and write my hairdresser’s name on it. Am I wrong?
Meanwhile, you are also supposed to tip the person who washes your hair or helps blow-dry it if that isn’t your stylist. What do you tip them? Curious what you guys think.
