A healthy summer snack for the picky eater

You may have made a juice pop or two in your life, and if you haven’t, then run out and buy one of those juice pop molds because they are about the easiest things in the world to make and so so so much better than getting the freezie pops from the grocery store, which are really just sugar water.

We have been taking it a step further by trying these variations to the regular ole’ orange juice pop:

  • Yogurt pops. Mix plain yogurt in a blender with berries or any other fruit you have on hand, just as if you were going to make a smoothie. In fact, if you have any leftover smoothie mix, you can freeze it in a mold and have a delicious frozen yogurt treat.
  • Juice and fruit. Mash some fruit, such as grapefruit, oranges, bananas, and watermelon in a bowl.   Mix them with juice to have a more chunky fruit pop, which is one fun way to get your picky eater to actually eat some of the fruit as well as the juice.
  • Lemonade or limeade pops. In a pitcher,squeeze 2 lemons and add some water. Add some kind of sweetener such as agave syrup or honey and stir vigorously until the sweetener is dissolved. Pour the “ade” into the molds and there you have it-a sharp yet sweet and refreshing snack.
  • We haven’t gone so far as to try anything savory, but we may do a little more experiencing…stay tuned….
