Letter from Rach: Now that’s refreshing
Each month, Rachael pens a personal letter to the readers of her magazine, Rachael Ray Every Day. Here’s what’s on Rach’s mind for February, and what’s cookin’ in the magazine. Don’t forget to get your copy of the issue, out on newsstands now!
I love that in what may be the coldest time of year and certainly the bleakest—no more pretty snow, just dirty ice, bitter cold, and wet snowstorms in my neck of the woods—our issue theme is “Hit Refresh!” Because when do you need to do that more than now? With Valentine’s Day approaching, it’s a good time to find ways to love ourselves a little better. So this issue is about sharing time and food and whatever you like with the one you love, but also about making a few plans for yourself: a facial, an extra exercise class, a couple of tickets to a great museum that you haven’t visited in a long time—or ever. Even if it’s as simple as reading a great book or checking out Goop.com, a healthy-lifestyle site and resource for all good things (see page 19), make a little more time for you and press that giant Reset button.
I also make time for all of those who have given their hearts and support over the last year. I send flowers and valentine notes to friends who live far away. I make my mom a Valentine’s meal, and I’ll spend some extra time with Isaboo. This month is her 13th birthday! (She loves a good massage—easy around the joints, please.)
I love my husband, John, very much. This year, he’ll get another bouquet of salami (really), a card, and gifts. But my favorite valentine isn’t on a card: I’m a sucker for a mixtape. Every year, John makes me a playlist that’s hours long. Swoon! If you don’t have time to make epic-length mixtapes and are looking for an affordable way to show that you know the one you love, just whip up a shorter playlist—that’s where it’s at!
And if you love a pasta lover, check out 30-Minute Meals for 10 ways to celebrate together (page 58). Remember, the way to anyone’s heart is through their stomach… or is it their glass? John has an amazing new cocktail called Kiss from a Rose (page 17)—cue Seal! Delicious, and it’ll make you blush.
Love and peace,
