Ciliege e Vino

Add this cherry soup to a bowl of vanilla ice cream or eat it with a spoon and nothing else! 


  • 1 cup cherries, pitted
  • 1 1/2 cups bold red wine, like a Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg


Put all ingredients into a heavy but small put.  Heat pot on stove top over medium-low heat and let barely simmer, if at all, for 1/2 hour.  Remove from heat and let cool until it is not too warm to eat.
