The Master Cleanse

By now I am sure you have heard of the Master Cleanse diet. It’s the diet where for 10 days you don’t eat anything, but you drink a mixture of water, lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper.  At night you drink a huge glass of salt water which helps flush your system even further.  This combination of ingredients is all you need to detox your body and keep it running on a daily basis.

I first heard of it a few years ago and thought it was the nuttiest sounding thing anyone could do.  First of all, I don’t really diet anyway, but secondly, the thought of starving yourself completely seemed ridiculous to me and maybe unhealthy.

But now, a few years later, I keep running into more and more people who have tried it and say it works wonders.  It’s not really a weight loss tool, although you do lose weight of course, but it’s point is to cleanse your system of toxins that have been building up for years in your body.  It’s like getting your teeth cleaned.  Still, I think it seems crazy but I have been amazed with the results.

My hairdresser lost 10 pounds and looks younger.  She can’t stop giggling and said she feels great.  My neighbor did it and he said he felt alive and had more energy after the fourth day.

I still think it sounds beyond challenging, although now I understand it better.

Has anyone out there tried this?
